Change of subject or stop studying

If it turns out that ...

the chosen course doesn´t meet your previous expectations of it
your motivation to study and your range of abilities don’t match the demands of the course
failures in and frustration with the course are accumulating
your qualification or work goals have significantly changed That is no reason to bury your head in the sand, rather there is much more cause to look for new solution.

Some suggestions for the way towards a new decision

  • Which features should a new satisfactory course of study have :
    -different content which interests you more?
    -more emphasis on practical work?
    -not so high demands in individual parts of the course ?
    -a shorter duration?
  • Your study experience to date could possibly supply you with advice to assist you in arriving at a new decision.
  •  In spite of current difficulties, it may be wise not to give up immediately on the chosen course e.g. if you are still able to meet your study or work goals by changing core areas of your course, or if you are in the position to significantly improve your attitude towards work and your study organisation.
  • In order to be able to find a new course of study or way in to a career it is advantageous to re-orientate yourself, to consider new possibilities, to obtain informationWhat kind of support does the Psychological Counselling Centre offer with planned course changes or a decision to stop studying completely?

    The Psychological Counselling Centre can help you to view your decision situation more clearly and the possibilities which are open to you.

Frequently the support consists of jointly looking at decision uncertainties and suitability and motivational factors. Further, we can help you to realise your new decisions.
